Terms of Use

Last updated: October 8, 2026

The short version: use Note Names to read and learn from music you're allowed to use. The letter names are a helpful guide, not a guarantee, so trust your ears and your teacher too.

Who we are

Note Names is made by ionr digital, an independent developer. These terms cover the Note Names app on iPhone, iPad and Android, this website, and the official Note Names social media accounts and the tools we use to run them. By using any of these, you agree to these terms.

App store terms

If you got the app from Apple's App Store, Apple's Standard End User License Agreement also applies. If you got it from Google Play, the Google Play Terms of Service also apply. If those terms and these conflict, the store's terms win.

Your music

You're responsible for the sheet music you import. Only import files you have the right to use: music you own, bought, or that is in the public domain. Your files stay on your device and we never receive them (see the Privacy Policy).

Accuracy

Note Names reads music with an on-device machine-learning model. It is usually right, but it can misread notes, clefs, accidentals or key signatures, especially on scans and photos. The app lets you fix any letter it gets wrong. Please don't rely on it where a mistake would matter, like an exam or a performance, without checking it.

Purchases

The app is free to try, with an optional one-time purchase to unlock unlimited imports. Purchases, refunds and restores are handled by Apple or Google under their own policies.

Acceptable use

Ownership

The app, its design, the G mascot, and the content on this website belong to ionr digital. Public-domain pieces in the bundled library remain public domain.

No warranty

The app and website are provided "as is", without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent the law allows, ionr digital is not liable for any indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of them. Nothing here limits rights you have under consumer law that can't be excluded.

Changes

We may update these terms from time to time. Changes take effect when they're posted here, with the date above.
