How it works

PDF in. Letters on.

1

Import a PDF

Any sheet music you already have: a download, a scan, or a score from your teacher.

2

Every note gets named

The app reads the page on your device, clef and key signature included, and puts the letter above each note.

3

Play, then let go

Turn the letters down as the piece sinks in, until you're reading the notes on your own.

Reliance dial

Wean off at your own pace.

Six steps, from every letter down to none. Keep only the landmarks, or only the ledger-line notes that trip you up. Each piece remembers its own setting.

The reliance dial, with steps from All letters down to No letters
Fix letters

Make each piece your own.

Nudge a letter, correct a note, or add one the app missed. Your fixes save with the piece.

Editing a note's letter on the score
Pen

Write on the score.

Sketch fingering and reminders with your finger or Apple Pencil, right on the page.

Handwritten fingering numbers drawn on the score

Questions

Good to know.

What music can I use?

Any sheet-music PDF: printed scores, downloads from sites like IMSLP or Musicnotes, or scans. You can also start with the Verified library of classics.

Which clefs does it read?

Treble, bass, alto and tenor, so it works for piano, strings, winds and voice.

What if a letter is wrong?

Tap the edit button, choose Fix letters, and tap the letter to correct it. Fixes save with the piece.

Won't I depend on the letters forever?

That's what the reliance dial is for. Turn it down as a piece gets familiar: every letter, then only the tricky notes, then none.

Is my music uploaded anywhere?

No. Note Names reads your PDFs entirely on your device and works offline. There are no accounts and no tracking.

Is Note Names on Android?

The Android version is in testing and coming to Google Play soon.

Who is G?

G is the note on our app icon, and the star of our Name Tags videos. Say hi.
